Roshan’s story

My name is Roshan. I recently became unemployed and was undergoing a lot of stress both in my personal and professional life. When I first stopped working, I put a lot of pressure on myself to find a job and this only increased my anxiety.

However, after a few sessions with Yasmin, she helped me realise that I was being too hard on myself and helped me to re-adjust my goals and prioritise my mental health. This has made me feel more confident and excited about the future. I have now found a coding course to improve my work prospects and provide me with structure whilst I look for work.

The support I received felt personalised and Yasmin took her time to find out what I want rather than pushing me into work. I didn’t feel confident in my work history, so I especially appreciated looking at job specifications together. It made me realise how many valuable skills I’ve gained in my limited work experience.

I am very grateful for Yasmin’s support; she has been so attentive and patient with me. My advice, which seems obvious, but I often forget it, is when feeling overwhelmed, it’s important to breakdown goals into smaller tasks. Although this may affect how long it takes to get there, it will feel more manageable. Having a successful career is great but nowhere near as important as our mental health.

If you’re unemployed or having difficulties at work, support is available. Check if you’re eligible for employment support from Work Well.
