Lien’s story

Hello, my name is Lien, I am 48 years old. I am of mixed ethnicity Chinese and Vietnamese. My family and I are refugees from Vietnam. I have lived in Deptford since 1985. I have had mental health problems since 200 and I was very unwell. The problem is that I am unemployed for the last 20 years. I have no current work experience, no current references and I am computer illiterate.

Nasreen, my employment specialist, helped me by going on the website to find the appropriate work for me. She helped me with my CV and career profile. She also helped communicate with Lewisham Hospital and Link Age Southwark.

With Nasreen’s help, I began a course at New Cross Learning Centre to help me with my computer skills. Afterwards, I attended an informal interview with Link Age Southwark and was offered a work placement.

A personal note: I would like to thank Michael my care coordinator at Speedwell, Deptford for referring me to Nasreen. I would like to thank Nasreen for all the help I received. I highly recommend to other mental health patients to see Nasreen to help them find work placements and employment. I still see Nasreen every two weeks to see how I progress or if I need other support. This continued contact with Nasreen is very important to my mental wellbeing.

If you’re unemployed or having difficulties at work, support is available. Check if you’re eligible for employment support from Work Well.
