Hello, my name is Andrea.
Last year I was made redundant from my job as a finance assistant. Although I’d worked for the company for 20 years, they restructured and decided to get rid of me. I was devastated and didn’t know what to do next.
I couldn’t sleep, so my doctor recommended some workshops to help me deal with the stress. There I met an employment adviser called Charlotte.
I told her I was nervous about applying for jobs again as I hadn’t been to an interview in 20 years! But she put me at ease and made me realise there’s lots of other people in my situation.
After LOTS of job applications I managed to get an interview for a finance position. Sadly they didn’t offer me the job, but it wasn’t as bad as I’d thought. Going through the interview process gave me a boost of confidence and I felt ready to have another go! I believed in myself.
I got an interview with another company a few weeks later, and was offered the job the very next day! I was thrilled!
I’ve been working in my new job for a few months now and I’m loving it. I work in a really nice team – everyone is very friendly and I feel valued.
Being made redundant was tough, but I proved to myself that I could start again, and now I’m even happier than I was before.
It’s never too late to update your CV!
